‘Father Walt’ was an avid supporter of the League and served 21 years as spiritual advisor: six on Calgary Diocesan Council and 15 on Provincial. Alberta Mackenzie Provincial Council launched these awards in 2007 in his memory. The purpose is to encourage councils to promote the League in their parish and recruit new members.
Certificates of Appreciation are given to all Councils that have an increase in membership in the previous year. These certificates are awarded based on the records kept by Diocesan Council.
Father Walter Krewski Awards are given to three councils in the Alberta Mackenzie area for increases in membership during the previous year. The purpose of these awards is to encourage all councils to promote the ‘League’ in their parishes and to recruit new members. All Parish C.W.L. Councils in Alberta Mackenzie are eligible for these awards. They are presented each year at the Provincial convention.
- The Most New Members award goes to the council that has the greatest number of new members in the previous year. (Please note: ‘New Members’ are only those who have never held a C.W.L. membership before). Information is to be submitted by each Parish Council President. This award is a stained glass Madonna.
To be considered, Parish Council Presidents should complete and submit this form by February 28th for the previous year. - The Greatest Increase in Membership award is a Madonna image. It benefits those councils that not only strive for new members, but also have members renew each year. Information is submitted by each Diocesan Treasurer.
- The Greatest Percentage Increase in Membership award is a St. Joseph statue. It benefits small councils who do not have a large membership, but also do not have a large parish population from which to recruit members. Nominations for this are also submitted by Diocesan Council.
