The Catholic Women’s League of Canada 101st Annual Calgary Diocesan Convention Hosted by Highwood Region Highwood Centre 128 – 5th Avenue SW, High River, AB T1V 1M3 |
March 15, 2023
Dear Sisters of the League,
Welcome! Come together and reconnect. Take time to Renew and Rejoice! The excitement is building as the Highwood Regional Planning Committee prepares to host the 101st Annual Calgary Diocesan Convention at the Highwood Centre on Friday, May 5th and Saturday, May 6th, 2023.
You won’t want to miss this annual celebration of the work and achievements by the League and councils across the diocese. The convention is a spiritual, social, and business gathering of Catholic women, spiritual advisors, and guests. It is a joyful, welcoming place where members meet cherished friends, make new ones, and gain knowledge and inspiration from the speakers, workshops, and discussions. Come and celebrate the joys of sisterhood in solidarity with our new National theme, Catholic and Living It! and convention theme, “Steadfast: Our Call to Love”.
Register online or download and mail your registration form. Payment options are e-transfer or cheque. Stay tuned to the website and Diocesan emails for updates and announcements on the daily agendas, guest speakers, and more.

FRIDAY – PRE-CONVENTION MEETING
Wear red today in tribute to our military and to show respect toward murdered and missing Indigenous women. This is an informative day with motivational guest speakers, Rev. Troy Nguyen and Deacon Michael Soentgerath. All spiritual advisors are welcome to spend the day to hear the speakers or to come for lunch only. Parish Councils should pay for their spiritual advisor’s lunch; and registration/convention fees if they are attending all day. The Opening Mass and Ceremony will begin at 7:00 pm, St. Francis de Sales Parish (206 – 9th Avenue SW), followed by a Wine and Cheese Social hosted by the Knights of Columbus.
SATURDAY – CONVENTION MEETING
This day begins with our poignant Memorial Service for deceased members and spiritual advisors, followed by the business session. Voting will take place on the Instructed Vote. The Closing Mass will be held at St. Francis de Sales Parish (206 – 9th Avenue SW) at 5:00 p.m., followed by supper at the Highwood Centre.
SATURDAY – POST CONVENTION MEETING
It will be on Saturday, a change from prior years. This short meeting (1/2 hour) is where we bring forward motions to pay convention expenses and discuss upcoming provincial and national conventions.
