Winter Coat Drive

As winter descends on Canada, the Diocese of Calgary and Salvation Army are once again organizing a “Winter Clothing Drive” for all participating parishes within the diocese. 

  • Download this poster and use it to organize a winter coat drive in your parish, ministry or community. 
  • If your council would like to receive a donation box and participate in this worthwhile cause, please get in touch with Mara Capili at  or 403-218-5521. If you have a leftover box from last year, please consider reusing.

The ABMK Quilt Project

The Quilt Project lead for the Calgary Diocese is:

Background:
• Request received from the Alberta Campus-Based Treatment Centres
• Youth ages 12-17 years are provided counselling and treatment
• Introduced at the 2024 Diocesan Conventions and the ABMK Provincial Convention

Treatment Centre Locations:
• Edmonton – Yellowhead Youth Centre
• Lac La Biche – Elk Lodge
• Lethbridge – Sifton House

Timeline:
• September 2024 to May 2025
• To be concluded at the 2025 ABMK Provincial Convention in Grande Prairie

Immediate Goal is 30 quilts
(More quilts are welcome to accommodate the revolving nature of the program)
• Preference: Twin Bed Dimensions: 70” X 95” (72 x 96 or 75 x 95)
• Lap Quilt dimension: 60” x 72”
• To be made with cloth or fleece (not a knitted or crotched blanket)
• Heart-shaped gift tag to be pinned to each quilt (as attached)

If you wish to Participate:
• Communicate with parish council members via emails or at your meeting
• Select a project lead in your parish.
Suggestion – Parish Council Service Chair
• Provide Anthea Berdan with your project lead’s name & contact information

Collection method:
• Quilts will be collected at the Regional Meetings by Diocesan Officers or contact Anthea Berdan for information.
• Communicate with parish council members via emails or at your meeting.

 

Coat Drive

Spread warmth & organize a Coat Drive

The Salvation Army is teaming up with the Diocese of Calgary to ensure everyone has a warm coat this winter. Donations of new and gently used coats and other winter wear are sorted and distributed by Salvation Army throughout various programs to be shared with those in need.

  2. Blessed are you who see the hurts of your patients, especially those overlooked by others, for you possess the eyes of Christ.
  3. Blessed are you who speak kindly to your patients, especially those plagued by fear or anger, for you possess the mouth of Christ.
  4. Blessed are you who touch your patients gently, especially those bruised by insensitivity, for you possess the hands of Christ.
  5. Blessed are you who think prayerfully of your patients, especially those alone and discouraged, for you possess the mind of Christ.
  6. Blessed are you who show love to your patients, especially those with chronic illness, for you possess the heart of Christ.
  7. Blessed are you who walk tirelessly to your patients, especially those with repeated calls, for you possess the feet of Christ.
  8. Blessed are you who persevere in your ministry, especially with compassion to all patients, for you possess the healing presence of Christ, and yours is the kingdom of heaven.

  1. Blessed are those who sleep poorly because they are worried about their loved one or because their loved one wakes in the middle of the night and needs help, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

  2. Blessed are those who mourn because their loved one, though still alive, is slipping away because of dementia, for they will be comforted.

  3. Blessed are the meek who force themselves to speak up and speak out to make sure their loved one receives the help he or she needs, for they will inherit the land.

  4. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for answers to why this is happening to their loved one and how much longer it will go on, for they will be satisfied.

  5. Blessed are those who show mercy, kindness and compassion to their loved one, for they will be shown mercy, kindness and compassion.

  6. Blessed are those who keep clean a loved one who is physically or mentally unable to keep himself or herself clean, for they will see God.

  7. Blessed are those who help their loved one find moments of peace, for they will be called children of God.

  8. Blessed are those who are misunderstood, not appreciated, and taken for granted in their role as caregiver, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

  9. Blessed are those whose caregiving efforts are unjustly criticized—or who are falsely accused of not caring about others—because of your love for your care-receiver and your love for God, who has asked you to help His beloved son or daughter. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven.
