Domestic Church

Families live out their vocation as the domestic Church. Nourish your family spiritually during the pandemic. Let us make our homes a sacred space, where God dwells. Find resources for prayers, devotions and liturgies that you can use at home during this pandemic here.

Let us take advantage of this somewhat strange time to welcome and live the Spirit in our homes and rediscover the wealth and the gift of our domestic Churches together with Jesus, who lives with us. (Card. Farrell, March 19, 2020).

This global pandemic has disrupted our usual Sunday observances from gathering for the celebration of the eucharist and visiting loved ones, to sharing meals and playing games together. Creating a domestic horarium can help you and your family mark the Lord's day and stay grounded in your Christian identity in this time of flux. (S. Brosig, March 2020).

A Prayer as I Put on My Mask

Creator,
as I prepare to go into the world,
help me to see the sacrament in the wearing of this cloth.
Let it be “an outward sign of an inward grace” –
a tangible and visible way of living love for my neighbours,
as I love myself.

Christ,
since my lips will be covered,
uncover my heart
that people would see my smile in the crinkles around my eyes.
Since my voice may be muffled,
help me to speak clearly,
not only with my words,
but with my actions.

Holy Spirit,
as the elastic touches my ears,
remind me to listen carefully
– and full of care –
to all those I meet.
May this simple piece of cloth be shield and banner,
and each breath that it holds be filled with your love.

In your Name and in that love, I pray.
May it be so,
May it be so.

Spiritual Communion Prayer

by St. Alphonsus de Liguori

My Jesus,
I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.

I love You above all things,
and I desire to receive You into my soul.

Since I cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace You as if You were already there
and unite myself wholly to You.

Never permit me to be separated from You.

Amen.
