Canada to Honour its Commitment to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child urges the federal government to honour its legal commitment to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child by providing legal protection to children before birth.

 

  1. Write to the prime minister and minister of justice with copies to local members of parliament urging the legal protection to children before birth as stated in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child which Canada has signed and ratified. .

  2. Educate members on the importance of legal protection for unborn children and encourage members to speak to family and friends..

  3. Educate members on the importance of understanding United Nations’ documents as they apply to the lives of Canadians and encourage members to speak to family and friends..

  4. Raise awareness to the annual Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children on January 22nd..

  5. Monitor the federal government’s response to this resolution

 

2019.02

Canadian Support for the United Nations Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons urges the federal government to support, sign and ratify the United Nations Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.

 

  1. Hold a speaker presentation to inform members of the necessity of banning nuclear weapons and of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons..

  2. Provide a list of websites and printed materials to members to increase knowledge of the hazards of nuclear warfare..

  3. Write letters to the prime minister and local members of parliament indicating support of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. .

  4. Monitor the federal government’s response to this resolution.

Provincial

Screening for Children in Alberta in Grades K-12 urges the provincial  government of Alberta to include annual universal dental screening in all Alberta schools, Grades K – 12

 

  1. Members of the Catholic Women’s League are urged to write letters to Alberta’s Premier, Alberta’s Health Minister, Alberta’s Minister of Education and local MLAs requesting that annual universal dental screenings be immediately implemented in all Alberta schools. .

    In particular, to request dental screenings for all school-aged children from grades K-12 in the Province of Alberta, and that the cost of any therapeutic dental care required as a result of an in-school dental referral be paid for by Alberta Health for those school-aged children without any other form of dental coverage..

  2. Each council hold a speaker presentation on the importance of good oral health and dental care for all individuals, including the most vulnerable..

  3. Every CWL member to practice good oral health and hygiene practices and encourage members of her family to see a dentist for a check-up regularly.

  4. Each council monitor the provincial government’s response to the request contained in the resolution.
