The 2019 national convention of the Catholic Women's League of Canada is being hosted by the Calgary Diocesan CWL. Plan to be a part of this exciting experience.
August 18 - 21, 2019
Accommodations: Hyatt Regency Hotel, Calgary
After attending the national convention in Vancouver in 2015 which was also held at the Hyatt, we have worked out an estimated budget and anticipate that we need to raise $70K to cover items such as: Mass Liturgy expenses, Hospitality, Transportation to and from the Mass Liturgies, Coffee breaks, Promotions, Special Events, Printing, Decorations and Promotion – all aimed at making this convention “affordable” for all our sisters across this wonderful country of ours. These expenses are not covered by National. All registrations monies go to National. Please support our various fundraisers:

Report on the January 2017 Snowflake Gala Fundraising Dinner and Silent Auction
The air was electric on the evening of January 28, 2017 at the Croatian Cultural Center in Calgary. Two hundred and seventy three guests purchased tickets to attend this evening of enchantment. As guests arrived for the sparkling reception, every tenth person that entered received a “Surprize gift.”
As our guests moved through the welcoming area they were met by our photographer at the snowflake photo booth. Everyone was very excited to have a complementary photo taken of them at the event, all dressed up.
Each guest was breath taken when they were greeted with a glass of champagne lit up with a glowing ice cube. As they entered the great hall, world renowned harpist Gianetta Baril was eloquently playing and the silent auction items were laid out for bidding and ushers escorted guests to their tables.
Reverend Dominic Nguyen, diocesan spiritual advisor, set the mood for the evening with a beautiful grace and the four course meal and wine service started shortly after. The event featured a fully stocked open bar all night long.
Convention co-chairs Marilyn Schafer and Judy Montes welcomed all guests to the first ever Catholic Women’s League (CWL) Snowflake Gala. "All of the ladies of the CWL are like snowflakes... different yet unique in their own special way."
Danny Barth was the Master of Ceremonies for the evening. His charming personality won over the crowd and he did a fantastic job keeping the momentum of the evening going, and our guests engaged.
His Excellency Bishop Frederick Henry brought greetings to our guests and spoke of the commitment and determination he has seen from the women of the Catholic Women's League of Canada. The entire room stood and applauded as His Excellency made his way back to his seat. It was a special moment.
The Calgary based travelling choir One Accord performed and entertained our audience with five fantastic songs during dinner.
CWL National President Margaret Ann Jacobs brought greetings on behalf of our National office, and spoke of Calgary hospitality and how wonderful it is. Sharon Malec, Diocesan President, also spoke reminding us of the incredible work that we do as members of the CWL, through the different themes that have been used over the years.
Several door prizes were handed out to lucky ticket holders throughout the evening, while the wine continued to flow. After the final auction closed at 10:15PM, the dance started and the dance floor was packed. The late night snack was set out at 11:30 PM and all too soon the enchantment and fun came to an end. Guests packed up their items from the auction, picked up their coats and said "when you do this again next year, make sure we are invited!" A fabulous evening of enchantment and excitement was had by all.
Special thanks to all of the dedicated hard-working gala committee members and volunteers who helped make this event happen. Also a huge special thanks to the members of the Alberta business community as well as our councils who donated items to our auction. You are appreciated.
